Riverbank Apartments are all newly refurbished to a high standard, each fully equipped for a comfortable self-catering stay with plenty of free parking at the door. Hella sits along Iceland’s Route 1 ring road, ideally located mid-way between Reykjavík and Vík.

From Hella, plan day trips around the Golden Circle and South Coast, including Þingvellir National Park, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss and the black sand beach at Reynisfjara. Individual free-flow driving times from the apartments are listed below. The town grocery store, bakery, pharmacy, restaurants and hot geothermal swimming pool are all within a short walk.

The One-Bedrooms
Four luxury self-catering apartments of 55 square metres, each with a large double bed, a sofa bed, fully equipped kitchen, free wifi and a washer/dryer. Spacious apartments, perfect for smaller families, groups of friends or couples travelling together. Each apartment is let separately. They are set side by side, which makes them ideal for larger groups: book two together and they comfortably sleep up to eight guests.

What is Riverbank?
Five self-catering apartments in the old bank building at Þrúðvangur 5, 850 Hella, in South Iceland. One is a 160 square metre penthouse that sleeps 8, and four are 55 square metre one-bedroom apartments that sleep 4 each. All five are in the same house, newly refurbished, and let by the night.
Where exactly is Riverbank?
At Þrúðvangur 5 in Hella, across the street from Stracta Hótel Mosfell. Hella is a village on Route 1 in South Iceland, on the bank of the river Rangá. Reykjavík is 94 kilometres away by road on Route 1, and Keflavík International Airport is 130 kilometres, on Route 1 and then Route 41.
Is Riverbank a hotel or self-catering apartments?
Self-catering apartments. Every one of the five has its own private kitchen with a dishwasher, its own bathroom and its own washer/dryer, and nothing is shared with anybody else in the house. There is no restaurant and no reception desk at Riverbank, but the hotel directly across the street serves breakfast and dinner.
How close is Riverbank to the Golden Circle and the South Coast?
Hella sits between the two. Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss are all within 86 kilometres, and Seljalandsfoss is 34.5 kilometres down Route 1, so both drives are day trips from the same apartment rather than two hotels and two nights of packing.
What is within walking distance of the door?
The grocery store is 105 metres away, the bakery 186 metres, the pharmacy 183 metres, and the local geothermal swimming pool and hot tubs 169 metres. Parking is free at the door, so the car can stay where it is.
Can you book Riverbank directly rather than through Booking.com or Airbnb?

What day trips can you do from Riverbank?
The Golden Circle, with Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss, and the South Coast waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, are both easy drives. In summer a highland bus from the supermarket down the street takes you to Þórsmörk for the day.
Do you need a car to stay at Riverbank?
For the countryside, yes. The Golden Circle, the South Coast and the waterfalls are all drives from Hella on Route 1, and there is no airport shuttle to the village: Keflavík is 130 kilometres by road. Inside Hella you can leave the car at the door: the grocery store, the bakery, the pharmacy and the swimming pool are all a few minutes on foot.
Are taxes included in the price?
Yes. The nightly rates on this site are in euros with Icelandic VAT and the accommodation tax (gistináttaskattur, 800 kr per apartment per night) already inside them. The only addition is the cleaning fee, which is shown with your quote before you send the request.
Can you book just one night at Riverbank?
Yes, there is no minimum stay, so one night is fine. Several guests have written in their reviews that they wished they had stayed longer, though: Hella is a base for the Golden Circle, the waterfalls and the rest of the South Coast, and most of it is a day trip from the same apartment.
How far ahead should you book?
For summer, early. Many summer bookings arrive as early as February, and the Penthouse is usually the first to go. Winter is quieter, so nights between October and April are often still free closer to the date.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel free of charge up to 30 days before arrival.
Is there an EV charger near Riverbank?
Yes. There is a fast charger for electric cars directly across the street from the building, and parking at Riverbank itself is free.
